HISTORY
Using only a shovel to hand load his small single axle truck, Alvin Caldwell, owner of Alvin Caldwell Sand & Gravel Ltd., would load his truck early every morning, deliver his first load of the day and head off to work at his regular job for the Department of Highways.
The company had its first expansion in 1949 when it purchased its first loader. Since then, the company has expanded and operates four pit and quarry locations in Haileybury, South Lorrain Township and North Bay as well as a farm for the extraction of topsoil in Hilliardton equipped with its fleet of tri-axle trucks, tractor trailers, loaders, excavators, a bulldozer, a backhoe, a roller, and most recently a crusher.
With the rapid growth over six decades Alvin Caldwell Sand & Gravel Ltd., has developed into what is now known as Caldwell Construction. Today Caldwell Construction is owned and operated by Alvin’s son, Gord Caldwell, and grandson, Chuck Caldwell, and employs over 40 employees.
